Thornton Action Group has been saddened to learn of the death of our longstanding member Peter Tarrant who died suddenly in Blackpool Victoria Hospital as a result of cancer on Sunday July 18th.

Peter joined Thornton Action Group – TAG - in 2003 as a result of his opposition to the proposed Canatxx Gas Storage Scheme – and consequently worked with the Protect Wyre Group throughout the ‘battle years’. He has continued to work with TAG since that time being a member of the executive committee and was Secretary for several years. His expertise, coming from his science and engineering background together with his ability to read complex reports and pick out significant details has been invaluable in all the issues TAG has tackled, including challenges to housing developments, traffic issues, loss of open space for recreation and drainage and flooding problems.

In spite of working full time in his demanding job, he was always ready to contribute help for our Christmas Lights scheme and also for the Hawthorne Park events.

I will miss those direct, focussed e-mails giving vital information about an issue Peter felt we could not ignore – and he was generally right! When- after Covid – we can get back to our Open Meetings we will miss his physical presence and his biro held up to let me know he had a point to make!

RIP Peter, you have been a great TAG member – Thornton owes you a big ‘thank you’.

Peter’s funeral service will be held at the Carleton Crematorium on Monday 16th August at 10.30 a.m.
